AROUND THE MOUNTAINS
Around the Mountains day cycling tours gives you an opportunity to explore and discover some of New Zealand's most secluded and rustic rural settings at a relaxing pace without sacrificing the comforts of home. Those eager to be transported back in time will appreciate the many historic townships and relics left behind by the region’s pioneers. Along the way you can expect to be welcomed by charming locals, served mouth-watering meals and told stories about the beautiful places they call home, all while experiencing real, heartland New Zealand.
GUIDED DAY TRIP:
Meet your guide at Outside Sports where you will be fitted to your mountain bikes and equipment. Your day commences with a cruise from Queenstown on board the vintage steam ship TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak. From there you will be driven to Mavora lake.
At Mavora Lake you will cycle along quiet country road through beech forest and tussock grasslands and stop for lunch at an historic musterers hut. After a little more riding the day will finish with afternoon tea and picklets at Walter Peak Station and a return to Queenstown on the TSS Earnslaw.
The trip departs Queenstown at 10am and takes 7.5 hours. Open November to March.
INDEPENDENT DAY TRIP:
Collect your bike from Outside Sports and then cruise across the Wakatipu on the TSS Earnslaw then explore the back country road along the western shores of Lake Wakatipu and Mt Nicholas station and beyond. A map is provided but cyclist will need to take sufficient food and drink for a days cycle ride.
Departs Queenstown 12 noon (all year), 10am and 2pm (mid Oct to mid Apr)
Return Cruise 4.45pm (all year), 2.45pm and 6.45pm (mid Oct to mid Apr)
